Doc Hock

 


The episode opens with the arrival of new recruits. Amongst them is
SP4 Francis Thurman Hockenbury, Bravo company's new medic.

Sgt.Anderson is talking to Lt.Goldman who is in the hospital recovering, when he tells Sgt.Anderson that he's thinking of taking the job in intelligence. Alex comes to see Lt.Goldman she gives him a walking cane. Then she tells him that she's going to Paris. He doesn't take it to well.

 

Ruiz, Johnson, Percell and Taylor are playing cards in the barracks, and the new guy (Doc Hock) is playing his music loud , its Hendrix.

Doc Hock , starts telling the guys about life back home when Percell speaks about Hippie Commie Faggots burning the flag, .Doc Hock replies back with "they won't be in the rice paddies killing babies". This doesn't go well and Percell goes for him. But Taylor steps in and grabs Doc Hock, they fall through the door and Taylor starts hitting Doc Hock.
 

Sgt.Anderson arrives and breaks it up. And finds out that Doc Hock is the new medic, and that he doesn't carry a weapon.

Alex surprises Lt.Goldman with a makeshift dinner in front of the Eiffel Tower as a going away present.
 

S.Sgt Anderson meets Lt. Goldman's replacement, Lt. Miller. Straight out of OCS. He gives S.Sgt Anderson his new rank badges and congratulates Sergeant First Class Anderson.

Alex goes into town and she meets her contact Muoi, who tells he he can get her a meeting with one of the people who planned the TET Offensive, in the tunnels outside Saigon. 

.

It's dangerous and they drive out and are met by V.C. soldiers in the countryside and are blindfolded and taken into the tunnels.

Sgt Anderson and Bravo company head out on a mission to hook up with Delta Company , they reach the river and Sgt.Anderson says its a good place to be ambushed. Lt. Miller says they don't have time to find another crossing.

As they start to cross over they come under attack. The first two guys across the river get hit. A round lands and the squad take cover and return fire. Lt. Miller calls in a fire mission and orders one high explosive burst rather than the suggested Willy-Pete heir burst (white phosphorus) marker round.

Lt.Miller gets his map reading wrong and the round lands on his position, killing him and wounding the radio operator.

oc Hock, who has been frozen to the spot during the opening seconds of the ambush rushes to try to help Lt. Miller and the R.O., Sgt.Anderson grabs the radio and gives the correct position of the enemy position.

Doc Hoc, runs across the river to save the point man who was hit from drowning .
The guys cover him as he's under fire and the artillery round is coming in.

In the tunnels Alex learns about life underground and a B52 high above unloads its payload above the tunnels.
After the attack , she leaves with Muoi .

Sgt. Anderson tells Doc Hock he did a good job and saved some of the guys.

As the chopper lands at the base Lt.Goldman meets Alex and they arrange to meet up at The Ban Sai at seven.
Lt.Goldman asks Sgt. Anderson how the mission went, they lost  Lt.Miller and Eckersly. And that Doc Hock put his butt on the line.

In the club Johnson gives Doc Hoc a bottle of beer from the guys, saying "you did good out there". Sgt.Anderson joins Doc Hock for a drink and to ask about Major Seymour.

Alex is the first to arrive at The Ban Sai and is standing outside. Lt. Goldman calls her , as she spots him a bicycle bomb explodes and she dies in Myron's arms.
