Saigon (part 1)
B ravo company has been transferred to Tan Son Nhut Base outside
Saigon and the city is becoming part of their lives. Lt.
Goldman and Sgt. Anderson are in the city just before curfew to find Rivera a GI
who has been hell and back. They find him in a Brothel and soon find they have
company.
Just as the situation is getting tense the back curtain goes and a woman walks
in, our guys are distracted the 'thugs' lunge forward and a Rivera is stabbed ,
a brief scuffle breaks out. and there is a tense standoff and the four of them
leave, by the rear.
The guys then find out that her name is Alex Delvin and she's a A.N.I wire
service correspondent.
They rush the injured Rivera to the Hospital where they work on him in the
E.R.
Alex tells Lt. Goldman that she was working
on a story about drugs and the black market , Rivera was feeding her
information.
After Lt. Goldman becoming angry with Alex, he apologises, and learns
that Alex has been in Saigon four months,
she was at An Khe with the first Calv and with the Riverine Force in the
Delta.
Sgt. Anderson comes out looks at her and says "they couldn't stop the
bleeding" and he walks away.
The mail has arrived and Ruiz is reading a letter from Roger Horn, who was
injured and sent home after the assault on Hill 1000.
Ruiz says that Horn "he says he's planning to go to Berkeley after they
mine all the lead from him. Says the only set back was when he got our
letter about Baker being chosen to the General's staff. he said he
laughed so hard he busted his stitches" Johnson tells Sarge "he's
got a ticket to the good life" ,,A contract for his
investment a limited partnership with Jake Bridger.
Sgt Anderson also got a letter from his ex-wife.
The guys are getting ready to head out on a new mission , they have a new
guys and one is Crawford. He's talking with Ruiz and Purcell (*)
He says "Charlie's got a bullet out there with everybody's name on it"
Ruiz angrily replies "You don't say that man You don't ever say that!!"
to the newbie.
They also have a new pilot Lt. Johnny McKay
Lt. Goldman asks "What's with the speakers?" McKay tells them that he got
them from slick used in the Chieu hoi program,
"I like to use them to psych Charlie out"
They fly out and when they arrive they are
going in hot !!!
The new guy is with Ruiz and says " You gotta help me Roo!"
Ruiz replies "...you stay on me like white on rice...."
Crawford's confidence builds or maybe its just the adrenaline kicking in
he rushes forward firing and is hit in front of Ruiz's eyes Ruiz
drags him back and Johnson calls for a medic.
The new medic rushes in and starts trying to save Crawford's life. He dies
holding Ruiz's hand..
McKay see's that the guys are under heavy attack and decides their going
back, he flies around the corner of the valley and the guys can hear the
sounds of Steppenwolf Born to be Wild blasting out. Between them they
manage to fight of the enemy and McKay lands and transports the guys
back to safety.
The episode moves onwards towards Saigon where Alex goes to the Hotel
Paradise to talk to Jake Bridger.
Meanwhile the guys return with the body of Crawford onboard,, Ruiz is
visibly affected
Some of the guys get ready to head into in City but Ruiz isn't up for it
.
Percell asks Lt. Goldman about someone to talk to about the lying,,,
maybe there's more ahead with this,,,,,
some of the other guys throw a surprise for Percell who mutters "Hell it ain't even my birthday I lied..."
Meanwhile Ruiz is sitting in the Morgue with
Craword's body ...
Taylor manages to win some passes for him
and Johnson into town as well as Anderson who catch a bus along with
Jake Bridger's daughter ,,
Meanwhile Lt. Goldman has met up with Alex
to discuss the events going on Saigon at the moment
