The Private Roger Horn Picture Gallery
In the series Tour Of Duty,
Joshua
Maurer played the part of Private Roger Horn ,
A politically aware young man who was against the war and at first said that he would not
fight as it was an unjust war.
Even before the first episode is over the horror of where Horn has found himself smacks
right into Horn as he has to fight hand to hand, for his life and he kills a man ,
something which horrifies him.
Throughout all of the series Horn has a slightly different outlook
to the war and tries to make the most of his tour as a learning experience.
It is thanks to Horn during the episode "Sitting Ducks" through his interest in
the Buddhist's that the 'guys' find out how they are always being attacked out on patrol.
In the episode 'Gray-Brown Oddessy' the normally quiet ,slightly reserved Horn is thrust
into the action as he has to help Lt. Goldman who has been blinded by an explosion and a
different ,determined, aggressive Horn is seen on screen.

In Horn's last episode "The Hill", an episode
which see's the guys fight to re-take a hill, that they had
previously taken, only to abandon it after reaching the top for a second time.
Halfway up the hill , being passed by the injured troops returning down the hill, hearing how one of the dead was killed by a bomb dropped by the US
Airforce.
Horn decides enough is enough and he refuses to go up the Hill again
, refusing to fight to take the hill only to give it up again. If he dies on the hill it
would be for nothing, and he isn't prepared to die for nothing.
He is ordered to return to the foot of the
hill by Lt. Goldman, to be dealt with later back at camp.
BUT his loyalty for the guys who have become his family , shows through again when
Taylor, injured, comes down the hill.
Horn wrestles with his emotions and then starts up the hill, Taylor
asks him what he is doing
Horn replies "I don't believe in this war, I never did I never will.
But I do believe in helping my friends ,I guess that's worth fighting for"
Horn goes up to help the guys out , feeling guilt at
leaving them knowing that they would always be there for him. When he reaches the top he
finds his buddies pinned down.
His thoughts are just to help his friends, through his
selfless actions he nearly pays the ultimate sacrifice as he is seriously injured when he
single handedly attacks the bunker to help his buddies out .
